Are you a musician/music
group (or other arts performer, e.g. dancer, storyteller) who would enjoy
performing for an honest audience of little
people? Then come to Bato Lomuda at The 418 Project on a Thursday
morning and play for a group of kids from 0 to 4 years old (and their
parents/caregivers). It’s fun, and it even pays!
Bato Lomuda starts with about 30 minutes of DJ'ed music, followed by
about 30 minutes of performance. Performers who need to set up need to arrive in time to
complete setup by 9:30AM on the Thursday you're performing. Otherwise,
you need to be ready to perform at 10AM.
The 418 Project has a sound system, which
is available for use. Please be sure to let us know that you'll need it
at least 2 days before your date. That said, because this is a small
room (1800 ft2) with little kids, an acoustic set is appropriate in most cases.
You are encouraged to bring any CDs you'd like to offer for sale.
Our preference is to pay musicians 50-75% of the door minus our class
rental fee ($22), with a minimum of $25. We are
non-profit and this allows us to operate sustainably. However, if your
act requires a different pay structure, we are open to discussion.
Please contact us.
What do little kids like? Here's the best answer I have -- kids
respond well when you're having fun. They like interactivity, eye contact, and of course props can
help but aren't necessary. Kids appreciate most types of music, but rhythm is an especially important
part of music at this age. Generally, they're open to just about anything.
We can offer advice on set lists if you'd like help figuring out what might work best.
